Liver Disease

Thanks For Your Support!

Joyce Wilcoxon's Bio

Hi, my name is Joyce Wilcoxon and I live in Frederick Md. It’s difficult to write about yourself, so I’ll just do the best I can. I have been ill for a long time. I have had four major illnesses that affected my liver. The last being about 13 years ago. I am suffering from End Stage Liver Disease and my prognosis is that eventually I will need a transplant. . I have had hundreds of tests over the last ten years. I have private doctors and have been going to NIH for thirteen years. They have treated me wonderfully. Unfortunately, the original protocol I was enrolled in did not work for me. By the grace of God I have survived much longer than any medical professional thought I would. I cannot work anymore and don’t actually leave the house much. The disease has affected my general health. Things have gotten much more difficult in the last year. This past fall I was hospitalized 3 times, totaling about 4 weeks. My monthly medical expenses now exceed my income. I am up walking and functioning around the house, but in a much more limited capacity. It doesn’t matter to me because I thank God every morning just because I woke up. I just love being alive.

I spend time with my family. I have a husband and grown daughters. Luckily, I live close enough to be able to see my grandchildren a lot. They are the best and they always make me laugh. I like to grow flowers and play games. My biggest hobby is definitely watching baseball on TV. I am a true Atlanta Braves fan thanks to my late mom. We really had great times watching the Braves on TV and attending games when we could. I want to thank everyone for their support.
