Dan Makosy

Stage IV Colorectal Cancer.

Daniel Mark “Coach Moo” Makosy, 57, of Mt. Airy, Maryland, passed away, peacefully, Wednesday, November 16, 2016, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. His wife, Gloria Makosy, of 13 years survives him.

Dan Makosy's Bio

Dan Makosy was born and raised just outside of Pittsburgh, PA. He is happily married to Gloria Makosy and they have five children (Logan, 19, Rylie, 17, Shea, 12, Brax, 11 and Quinn, 9). Dan played football in college at St. Francis University (Laretta, PA) He coached at Damascus High School for 20 years as both an Assistant and Head Coach, where he won six State Championships. This is Dan’s second year as the Head Football Coach at Kennedy High School. Dan, fondly known as “Coach Moo”, was elected Maryland Coach of the Year in 2005. He was inducted into the Maryland High School Coaches Hall of Fame in 2012. Despite his illness, Dan continues to coach at Kennedy when he can and is also currently coaching for LOUYAA Football. In addition to football, Dan enjoys golf and riding dirt bikes with his family.

In March of 2015, Dan was diagnosed with Stage IV Colorectal Cancer. It has since metastasized to his liver, lung, spleen and lymph nodes. The LOUYA football players all wear blue ribbons on their helmets in support of Dan and his battle with cancer. Dan’s wife, Gloria, and her children have been by his side throughout this journey and they continue to find ways to lift him up and keep his spirits high while facing his darkest moments.
