Betty (Moe) Anderson is a 43-year-old
single parent, who is facing the
recurrence of her cancer within 3 years
of her first diagnosis. Her son,
Dallas, is 11 years old and just entered
his first year of middle school. Besides
being a very dedicated mom, Moe is
extremely active in her church
community.
Moe
was first diagnosed with cancer in 2005,
only 2 years after losing her mom to
this terrible disease. Moe immediately
took the appropriate tests that
determined that her cancer was not
caused by a genetic factor. In electing
to fight this disease head-on, she chose
the most radical form of treatment in
order to decrease the possibility of
reoccurrence to 10% or less: a
bilateral mastectomy, a hysterectomy and
chemotherapy.
Despite such efforts, just this past
August, 2008, Moe discovered a lump in
her chest which has been identified as,
“recurrent breast cancer.” She will now
have to begin again with chemotherapy as
well as begin treatment through
radiation.
Adding to her heartbreak and
disappointment of facing this
reoccurrence and treatment is the tragic
loss of her father, Roland. During her
first battle with cancer, her father
embodied her “peace of mind” in caring
for herself and Dallas. Her father also
provided needed support and helped
immensely with taking care of Dallas.
However, Roland passed away last year,
suddenly and tragically, leaving a gap
for emotional support and a need for
help for the basic necessities in life.
Now, in dealing with this second bout of
this awful disease, she is faced with
less support for herself and Dallas. Her
condition is not only one of physical
and emotional pain, but also one of
mounting financial hardship. All of her
paid sick leave has been exhausted. She
is now compelled to reach out to family
and friends for any help.
We
are asking each of you to also reach out
and help her and Dallas make it through
this difficult time. We are also asking
you to join Moe’s Team and help
according to your ability to do so.
Most of all, we ask that you continue
to keep Moe and Dallas in your thoughts
and prayers and help get them through
this most challenging time of their
lives.
